international women's day

In Mozambique, women account for:
- 23% of the government's ministers, including the Prime Minister
- 2 in 11 provincial governors
- 35.6% of the 250 members of parliament (one of the highest percentages in the world)

Below are a few great photos of women who I think are amazing: those at the beach searching for clams to feed their families; women walking home from their machambas (farms); ladies preparing lunch for a training; and my wonderful empregada. Many women in this country are incredibly hard-working and deserve more than what life here often affords them. I believe they are truly the backbone of African society.

The first two photos and the last photo were taken by KW.
